Functional Beauty: A Surface That Becomes a Work of Design.

Year

2017

Location

Australia

Located in the heart of Queensland, Australia, this private residence designed by MJB and Tim Roberts embodies the perfect blend of minimalist architecture, functionality, and material sophistication. The two-story home features geometric volumes and clean lines that harmonize with the surrounding landscape. Large windows frame natural light, while the interiors are conceived to offer comfort, visual continuity, and a strong connection with the outdoors. The project stands out for its masterful use of natural materials and high-end ceramic surfaces, creating a warm and elegant atmosphere.

A key highlight of the design is the facade clad in Travertino Maximum by Fiandre, developed in collaboration with partner Artedomus. This large-format ceramic surface, inspired by natural stone, gives the building a monumental yet contemporary appearance. The horizontal veining and neutral color palette—from beige to ivory—create a timeless and enveloping visual effect. Thanks to Maximum technology, the slabs maintain a reduced thickness while offering high performance in terms of strength, lightness, and ease of installation. The partnership with Artedomus enhanced the material’s potential, integrating it seamlessly into the architectural language and ensuring impeccable aesthetic results.

This project demonstrates how residential architecture can become an artistic expression through the thoughtful use of innovative materials and close collaboration between designers and technical partners. The home by MJB and Tim Roberts is not just a place to live—it’s a manifesto of design, sustainability, and functional beauty.
